FRANCE-PARIS-TUILERIES
This handout picture given 15 November 2006 by the Archives Louis Parente shows an engravement of the Palais des Tuileries in Paris as it was in the middle of the 19th century. Burned in the 1871 Commune uprising and demolished 11 years later, the Tuileries palace seemed destined to disappear into oblivion. Earlier in 2006 France Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres set up an official committee to study the reconstruction idea, and a lobbying effort is under way to raise the necessary 500 million euros (640 million dollars) from private industry and donations from benefactors.
