FRANCE-PARIS-TUILERIES
(FILES) People walk on the snow, 30 December 2005 in the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris where the Tuileries Palace was located. Earlier in 2006 France Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres set up an official committee to study the reconstruction idea of the Palais des Tuileries, and a lobbying effort is under way to raise the necessary 500 million euros (640 million dollars) from private industry and donations from benefactors. Burned in the 1871 Commune uprising and demolished 11 years later, the Tuileries palace seemed destined to disappear into oblivion. AFP PHOTO/FILES/THOMAS COEX
