CHILE-PINOCHET-DECEASE
A supporter of former Chilean dictator (1973-90) gen. Augusto Pinochet shouts slogans at the news that he died, 10 December, 2006 outside the Military Hospital, in Santiago. Pinochet, 91, died 10 December at the hospital where he was admitted a week ago following a heart attack. Pinochet, whose brutal 17 year rule was a potent symbol of Latin American military repression, had long evaded efforts to bring him to justice for the torture and deaths of thousands during his rule.
