SERBIA-KOSOVO-VOTE
An ethnic Albanian man prepares to cast his ballot at a polling station in the southern Serbian town of Presevo, 21 January 2007 for the general elections, pitting pro-western and ultra-nationalist forces against each other as the fate of the breakaway province of Kosovo looms. Taking advantage of unseasonably warm winter weather, voters began trickling in to some of the more than 8,500 polling stations across the Balkan nation, including Serbs in ethnic-Albanian dominated Kosovo. The election comes with Serbia on the brink of losing Kosovo, its historic heartland which has been run by the United Nations since the end of the 1998-1999 war between forces loyal to former strongman Milosevic and ethnic Albanian guerillas.
