GUINEA-POLITICS-UNREST-PARLIAMENT
Djibril Konate, a deputy from the ruling PUP party speaks 23 February 2007 in Conakry in favour of the lifting of the martial law period just before a vote. Members of parliament in Guinea unanimously refused to extend a martial law period imposed by President Lansana Conte on February 12 after mounting protest over his rule. The 86 members present at a special session of the 114-strong national assembly, rejected the call made by the embattled leader to prolong a state of siege due to expire at midnight today.
