Police special forces take cover behind an armoured personnel carrier as they go 27 June, 2007 through one of the entrances to the Alemao shantytown, northern Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At least 18 people were killed and 10 more wounded in clashes between drug traffickers and police, authorities said. The firefight broke out Wednesday morning, when 1.200 policemen and 150 National Security Forces agents stormed the 100.000 inhabitants low income neighborhood, clashing with the traffickers and trapping many civilians in the crossfire.
