NIGER-VIOLENCE-TUAREGS-ARMY
TO GO W/ AFP STORY BY Boureima HAMA
Nigerois Army troops patrol 02 July 2007 in a street of the northern town of Agadez. Despite recurrent attacks by the Nigerois Movement for Justice (MNJ), based 400 kms north of Agadez on the mount Tamgak in the Air chain, the Nigerois government continues to deny there is a resurgence of the Tuareg rebellion in the north of the country, attributing the current insecurity in the area to "bandits." The MNJ carried out its first attack against the army in February 2007 before killing 13 soldiers and making 41 prisoners in June 2007.
