NIGER-VIOLENCE-TUAREGS-ARMY
TO GO W/ AFP STORY BY Boureima HAMA
Members of the Nigerois Movement for Justice (MNJ) pose in March 2007 on the mount Tamgak in the Air chain, 400 kms north of the northern Niger town of Agadez. Despite recurrent attacks by MNJ, the Nigerois government continues to deny there is a resurgence of the Tuareg rebellion in the north of the country, attributing the current insecurity in the area to "bandits." The MNJ carried out its first attack against the army in February 2007 before killing 13 soldiers and making 41 prisoners in June 2007. AFP PHOTO / STR
