US-BADWATER-ULTRAMARATHON
Valmir Nunes of Brazil warms up by running across the salt flats at the bottom of Death Valley at the Badwater Basin before the start of the Kiehl's Badwater Ultramarathon, 23 July 2007 in Death Valley National Park in southeastern California. Nunes won the race in a record 22 hrs 51 mins 29 sec to become the first person to finish the race in under 24 hours. Badwater, at 282 feet (86 meters) below sea level, is the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere and is the starting point for the 135-mile (217 km) Kiehl's Badwater Ultramarathon which finishes at the Mt.
