SLEONE-UN-JUSTICE-TRIBUNAL-FILES
(FILES) -- File picture dated 03 June 2004 shows Moinina Fofana, accused of war crimes during the 1991 to 2002 conflict in Sierra Leone, at the start of the opening trial of the UN-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone in Freetown. A UN-backed war crimes court in Sierra Leone convicted 02 August 2007 two leaders of a pro-government militia of atrocities committed during the 10-year civil war, but acquitted them of crimes against humanity. Fofana and Allieu Kondewa led the Civil Defence Forces (CDF), a notorious paramilitary force which recruited traditional Kamajor hunter militias to fight rebel forces during the 1991-2001 conflict. The two had pleaded not guilty to all eight charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity levelled against them. AFP PHOTO/POOL/BEN CURTIS
