SLEONE-UN-JUSTICE-TRIBUNAL-FILES
(FILES) -- File photo dated 03 June 2004 shows from L to R: Allieu Kondewa, Moinina Fofana and Sam Hinga Norman, who are accused of war crimes during the 1991 to 2002 conflict in Sierra Leone, rising for the arrival of the judges at the start of the opening trials of the UN-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone in Freetown. A UN-backed war crimes court in Sierra Leone convicted 02 August 2007 two leaders of a pro-government militia of atrocities committed during the 10-year civil war, but acquitted them of crimes against humanity. Kondewa and Fofana led the Civil Defence Forces (CDF), a notorious paramilitary force which recruited traditional Kamajor hunter militias to fight rebel forces during the 1991-2001 conflict. Proceedings against Norman, the ex-deputy defense minister and head of the CDF, had to be dropped following his death in custody, from natural causes, early this year. AFP PHOTO/POOL/BEN CURTIS
