US-FIRES-MALIBU
Malibu Presbyterian Church continues to smolder as high winds continue to push a wildfire toward multi-million dollar homes, many owned by celebrities, on 21 October, 2007 in Malibu, California. The fire that has destroyed several homes and businesses is zero percent contained and is expected to continue spreading for days. The arrival of Santa Ana Winds is bringing gusts of 60- to 80-miles per hour in Malibu and up to 108 miles per hour on a peak near one of the fires that broke out in Los Angeles County this morning. Fire conditions are particularly dangerous this year because the driest season since records began 130 years ago has taken most of the moisture from the Chaparral habitat that covers much of southern California.
