BANGLADESH-US-CYCLONE
In this picture taken 24 November 2007, shows an aerial view from a US Marine Corps Helicopter of damage to villages and infrastructure following Cyclone Sidr, which swept into southern Bangladesh. The amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), as well as elements of Amphibious Squadron 8 and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC) arrived off the coast of Bangladesh Nov. 23 to support ongoing disaster relief operations. A military-led relief effort to deliver aid to thousands of cyclone survivors in southern Bangladesh has moved into higher gear with a fleet of US helicopters joining the aid operation. Deliveries of aid had been hampered by huge logistical hurdles after many roads were washed away by a six-metre (20-foot) tidal wave or blocked by fallen trees during the killer storm. At least 3,400 people died in the 15 November, cyclone. Some 1,700 are still missing and more than 360,000 homeless and in desperate need of supplies. AFP PHOTO/U.S NAVY/Sgt. Ezekiel R.
