NORWAY-ARCTIC-ENVIRONMENT-WARMING-CROPS
The interior of Vault 2 is seen inside the Global Seed Vault, on February 24, 2008 in Longyearbyen. The Seed vault has been built in a mountainside cavern on the island of Svalbard, around 1000 km from the North Pole, to store the world's crop seeds in case of a disaster. The official opening will take place on February 26. The vault, made up of three spacious cold chambers each measuring 27 x 10 metres (89 x 33 feet), create a long trident-shaped tunnel bored into the sandstone and limestone.
