SWEDEN-GERMANY-AUTO-TAKEOVER-COMPANY-VW-SCANIA
(From L) Martin Winterkorn, CEO of Volkswagen, Leif Ostling, CEO of Scania, Hans Dieter Poetsch, chairman of Volkswagen, and Borje Ekholm, CEO of Investor, pose for photographers during news conference in Stockholm on March 03, 2008. Volkswagen AG said today it will become the biggest shareholder of Swedish truck maker Scania, paying at least 17.6 billion kronor (#1.88 billion; US$2.85 billion) in a move that could clear the road for new talks about merging it with German truck builder MAN AG. The Wolfsburg-based automaker, Europe's biggest in terms of sales, said it had agreed with Scania shareholders Investor AB and the Wallenberg foundations to buy their combined 134.7 million A-shares of Scania.
