KENYA-MUNGIKI-SHOOTING
Police retrieve the body of one of two suspected leaders of an outlawed Kenyan sect called "Mungiki" from their bullet-riddled vehicle on April 28, 2008 near Limuru, 30 kilometres north-east of the capital, Nairobi, after an encounter with police officers who had been tailing them. The two were allegedly headed for Naivasha for a gathering of other leaders of the sect when they were gunned down after a dramatic car chase, as police continue to crack down on the sect. The sect is blamed for sporadic attacks on civilians, beheadings and deadly machette attacks, inspiring fear in the population, with the latest attack in March 2008, leaving at least 20 dead.
