US-PORN-INDUSTRY-HIV
Former porn actress and co-founder of AIM (Adult Industry Medical) HealthCare Foundation, Dr. Sharon Mitchell (L), is greeted by members of the adult entertainment industry as she comes off the stage following a press conference on the outbreak of the HIV in pornographic entertainment industry on April 22, 2004 in Los Angeles, California. Adult-film producer Ira Levin is seen at the podium. The state-s multi-billion dollar pornography industry is in a voluntary 60-day moratorium following the infection of two porn stars with the HIV virus. California and Los Angeles county officials say that the outbreak gives them leverage to force changes in the adult-film industry which prides itself on self-regulation of the health of its actors. After testing more than two dozen people the actors came into sexual contact with, AIM announced that no additional transmissions of HIV from these cases is expected. AIM provides the required STD testing and treatment, as well as healthcare and other support, for southern California adult industry actors and models.
