IRAQ-RELIGION-RAMADAN
A city worker sets up a sign in downtown Baghdad reminding Muslims of their fasting duties during the holy month of Ramadan on September 1, 2008. A verse from the Koran on the sign reads in Arabic "In the name of God the merciful, fasting is a duty." Iraqi Sunnis started to observe the Muslim holy month of Ramadan from today, to be followed a day later by Shiites. Throughout the month, followers are required to abstain from food, drink and sex from dawn to dusk. Activity peaks between "iftar", the breaking of the fast at sunset, and "suhur", the last meal of the day before sunrise. AFP PHOTO/SABAH ARAR
