MIDEAST-ISRAEL-PALESTINIAN-SETTLERS
Young Jewish settlers leave a religious school under Israeli army protection in Hebron's Palestinian quarter following prayers on October 7, 2008, ahead the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur. Several hundred Jewish settlers live in an enclave in the divided West Bank city, protected by the Israeli army, amid 150,000 Palestinians. Yom Kippur, the most solemn day in the Jewish calendar, is a 25-hour period of fasting and intense reflection and prayers where the central theme is atonment that begins tomorrow after sunset.
