CORRECTION-FRANCE-GUADELOUPE-FINANCE-ECONOMY-STRIKE
People hold the banner of CTU (United Workers' trade-union) which reads : "Togetheir, let us reinvent hope" as they demonstrate on February 9, 2009 in Pointe-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe) against the high cost of living, for better pay and employment. France's Caribbean island of Guadeloupe has been on a general strike for over two weeks, with shops, schools and public transport shut down and half-a-million residents facing food shortages. Demonstrations also took place today in the neighbouring island of Martinique.
