NIGERIA-TRANSPORT-MOTOCYCLE-SECURITY
TO GO WITH AFP STORY IN FRENCH BY SOPHIE MONGALVY
The medical director of the National Orthopedic Hospital in Lagos, Wahab Yinusa, speaks on February, 20, 2009 of the plight of patients involved in accidents on motorcycle taxis, popularly known as "okadas." The Federal Road Safety Commission has began to enforce a new policy that compels okadas since January 1, 2009 to use helmets and provide one to their passengers to limit road accidents. Despite the law, accidents are increasing as many passengers refuse for reasons of hygiene to wear the helmets provided by okada drivers. AFP PHOTO / PIUS UTOMI EKPEI
