NETHERLANDS-MIDEAST-CONFLICT-NGO-GEUZENPENNING
Mayor of the Hague Jozias van Aartsen (L) awards the Netherlands' prestigious human rights prize, the Geuzenpenning, to Wesam Achmad (R), a representive of the Palestinian human rights organisation Al-Haq, whose director, Shawan Jabarin is absent due to a travel ban, and Jessica Montell (C) a representive of the Israeli organisation B'Tselem. Both organisations keep a record of violations of human rights. The Geuzenpenning refers to two periods in Dutch history when men and women sacrificed their lives in the fight against oppression.
