Ex-junta leader Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz waves on his arrival for a signing ceremony on the agreement to end the political crisis at the Palais de Congres in Nouakchott on June 4, 2009. Mauritania's military rulers and opposition leaders signed an agreement on June 4 to end the political crisis with the help of international mediators. The agreement involves the resignation of the Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, the president toppled in the August 6 coup last year; the formation of a national unity government; and a presidential election on July 18.
