MAURITANIA-VOTE-POLITICS-AZIZ
Senegalese Foreign Minister and head of the Senegalese delegation Cheikh Tidiane Gadio (C) signs an agreement as Mauritanian interim president Ba Mamadou Dit Mbare (2nd R) and ex-junta chief General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz (R) look on during a signing ceremony on the agreement to end the political crisis at the Palais de Congres in Nouakchott on June 4, 2009. Mauritania's military rulers and opposition leaders signed an agreement on June 4 to end the political crisis with the help of international mediators. The agreement involves the resignation of the Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, the president toppled in the August 6 coup last year; the formation of a national unity government; and a presidential election on July 18. The deal effectively postpones the election that the ruling junta had planned in which ex-junta leader Aziz was running. AFP PHOTO/GEORGES GOBET
