GERMANY-ICELAND-VOLCANO-AVIATION-AIRPORT
Lufthansa technician Bernd Kaiser works on a turbine of the just landed cargo airplane at the airport Frankfurt/Main, western Germany on April 18, 2010. The cargo plane was allowed to land with a special permit, despite the German wide flight ban due to ash released from Iceland's volcanic eruption. Germany's air safety agency DFS on April 19 extended to 8:00 pm (1800 GMT) the shutdown of its airspace because of volcanic ash, prompting a furious reaction from some of the country's airlines.
