KENYA-AIDS-ORPHANS-GRANDMOTHERS-
Beatrice Anyango (C)watches her 3-and-a-half year old grandson, Eugene (C) skip a step as they walk from school to their home in Kibera, one of Africa's largest slums, on November 29, 2010. Beatrice is affiliated with the Nyanyo Project, an initiative to empower African grandmothers who care for their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS. Eugene's mother died of AIDS when the child was a little over a year old. An estimated 22.5 million people are living with HIV in the region - around two thirds of the global total. In 2009 around 1.3 million people died from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and 1.8 million people became infected with HIV. Since the beginning of the epidemic 14.8 million children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. AFP PHOTO/ROBERTO SCHMIDT
