FRANCE-POLITICS-CORRUPTION-TRIAL-CHIRAC

France's former President Jacques Chirac, 78, who has to face corruption charges, accused of using public money to pay people working for his party while he was mayor of Paris between 1977 and 1995, is seen in his car as he leaves his office in Paris on the opening day of his trial without his apppearance on March 7, 2011. The whole proceeding could come to a halt once again, if lawyer Jean-Yves Le Borgne, working for one his co-defendants, succeeds in getting a procedural element of the case referred upwards to France's constitutional court. If convicted, Chirac faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine of 150,000 euros (210,000 dollars) on charges including embezzlement and breach of trust. AFP PHOTO BERTRAND LANGLOIS
