French former Paris mayor chief of staff, Michel Roussin (L), former minister and his lawyer Pierre Haik (R) answer to journalists, on March 7, 2011, Paris courthouse after the hearing, on the first day of the trial of France's former President Jacques Chirac, 78, who has to face corruption charges with nine other people, accused of using public money to pay people working for his party while he was mayor of Paris between 1977 and 1995. The whole proceeding could come to a halt once again, if a lawyer, working for one his co-defendants, succeeds in getting a procedural element of the case referred upwards to France's constitutional court.
