FRANCE-POLITICS-CORRUPTION-TRIAL-CHIRAC
French lawyer Jean-Yves Lienard (L) and his client Francois Musso leave on March 7, 2011 the Paris courthouse after the first day of the trial of France's former President Jacques Chirac, charged with nine other peole, who has to face corruption charges, accused of using public money to pay people working for his party while he was mayor of Paris between 1977 and 1995. The whole proceeding could come to a halt once again, if the lawyer working for one his co-defendants succeeds in getting a procedural element of the case referred upwards to France's constitutional court. If convicted, Chirac faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine of 150,000 euros (210,000 dollars) on charges including embezzlement and breach of trust. AFP PHOTO BERTRAND GUAY
