LIBERIA-VOTE
A Liberian National Electoral Commission (NEC) worker empties ballot boxes on November 9, 2011 for the country's second-round presidential election in Monrovia a day after the poll. Liberian incumbent Ellen Johnson Sirleaf seemed poised for a second term and the opposition was crying foul. The election had been expected to consolidate peace and confirm Liberia's democratic credentials, but a boycott call by challenger Winston Tubman and a deadly shooting poisoned the west African country's second post-war vote.
