CROATIA-WAR-ANNIVERSARY
Croatian army officials hold flags as they lead a procession which was called a "Memory Column" through the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar on November 18, 2011 on the 20th anniversary of the town's fall to Serb forces, the bloodiest episode of Croatia's 1991-1995 independence war. The fall of Vukovar marked the beginning of Croatia's war of independence from the former Yugoslavia, which claimed around 20,000 lives. During the Vukovar siege, some 1,600 defenders and civilians were killed and the town was practically razed to the ground.
