COMOROS-MALI-FRANCE-ARMY-KIDNAP-FILES
A file picture shows French citizen Philippe Verdon leaving the office of the examining magistrate in Moroni on January 6, 2004, following his arrest in Moroni for allegedly having undermined state security at the end of a demonstration in Moroni against the increased cost of rice. French soldiers joined Mali's army on November 25, 2011 in the hunt for two French men who were kidnapped by an armed gang this week. The two were seized from their hotel in the eastern village of Hombori near the border with Niger early Thursday, in an assault bearing the hallmark of Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist militants. According to documents seen Friday by the journalist, the names of the two French men are Philippe Verdon and Serge Lazarevic. They had arrived on Tuesday night, and the hotel manager put their names on file. AFP PHOTO / YOUSSOUF IBRAHIM
