COMOROS-MALI-FRANCE-ARMY-KIDNAP-FILES

(FILES) A file picture taken on January 6, 2004 shows French citizen Philippe Verdon leaving the office of the examining magistrate in Moroni following his arrest in Moroni for allegedly having undermined state security at the end of a demonstration in Moroni against the increased cost of rice. French President Francois Holland confirmed on July 15, 2013 the death of Verdon, who had been kidnapped by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) from a hotel while on business in northeastern Mali in November 2011. The French Foreign Ministry said on July 14 that the body of the French hostage, who was announced killed by his Al-Qaeda captors in March, had "very likely" been found in Mali.
