AFRICANUNION-SUMMIT-COOPERATION-CHINA

Somalia President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed attends the inauguration of the high-rise African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, built and donated by China at a cost of $200 million, on January 28, 2012. The inauguration event was attended by African Heads of State and other dignitaries including Jia Qinglin, chairman of China's political advisory body the 'People's Political Consultative Conference', who handed over the symbolic keys to Nguema. The building, which towers above the Ethiopian capital, was opened ahead of the start of the pan-African body's 18th ordinary summit, a bold symbol of China's rapidly changing role in Africa.
