A picture take on March 20, 1962 shows residents discussing next to a poster printed by the French government and reading "For Our Children Peace in Algeria" in Algiers. France and the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) signed a treaty on March 18, 1962 in the French Alpine town of Evian putting an end to the Algerian war which had lasted for almost eight years and resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths.
