SOMALIA-UNREST-AMISOM
A handout photograph taken on January 9, 2013 and released on January 10 by the African Union-United Nations Information Support Team shows a member of the Somali National Army (SNA), of which various members have been positioned alongside African Union troops on frontline positions in Somalia. The commander of the Land Forces of the Ugandan People's Defense Force (UPDF), Lieutenant General Katumba Wamala, visited on January 9 and 10 frontline positions occupied by members of the UPDF as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist Shebab fighters have lost the major towns they used to control in south and central Somalia but still hold a few strategic towns such as Bardhere and Burhdubo. Government troops and their African allies are trying to wrest back control of those towns. AFP PHOTO / AU-UN IST PHOTO / TOBIN JONES
