Wowereit announced on October 4, 2013 in an interview to Newspaper Berliner Morgenpost he is leaving the SPD leadership and won't be a candidate to lead the party at their November's meeting. SPD and rulling CDU hold on October 4, 2013 talks on forming a "grand coalition", after parliamentary elections handed Angela Merkel a third term at the Chancellery.
