BOLIVIA-GAS WAR-CONFLICT-FILE
Bolivian miners march during a demonstration in La Paz 15 October 2003. Clashes between police and protesters have left at least 86 dead and 200 injured over the past three weeks, according human rights organization. Protesters are angry over a planned five-billion-dollar natural gas pipeline through Chile which would supply the United States and Mexico but which, they say, would leave little profit for Bolivia. Ten years ago the "Gas War" or the "Gas conflict" as it was known, ended with 60 dead people after riots in La Paz and El Alto and gave way to the indigenous movement led by Evo Morales.
