ICOAST-ANIMALS-ELEPHANTS-RESCUE
TO GO WITH A STORY BY EVELYNE AKA AND JORIS FIORITI
Residents crowd on January 22, 2014 in front of a tranquilized elephant captured by a team of the NGO International Fund Animal Welfare (IFAW) in Daloa, Ivory Coast, as it is loaded onto a truck for relocation in the south of the country. An operation to displace a dozen elephants from the centre to the south of Ivory Coast began on January 19, 2014. According to IFAW, the elephants were forced out of their original homes in Marahoue National Park by human migration possibly related to the West African country's 2010-11 postelection violence. The dozen or so elephants targeted for relocation moved near Daloa two years ago and began wreaking havoc, destroying crops and killing two people including a small boy who accidentally stumbled upon elephant calves, prompting their mother to attack, IFAW said.
