US-ANIMALS-SNOWY OWL-FILES
(FILES) File photo dated January 29, 2014 shows a snowy owl sitting on the awning of an office building in Washington, DC. The District of Columbia owl that has been spotted recently in the downtown area was reportedly struck by a bus January 30, 2014 and later taken to the Smithsonian National Zoo for treatment. The bird, believed to be a female, is now in the care of City Wildlife, an organisation with the mission to assist wildlife in urban areas. The owl suffered a broken toe and undetermined injuries. Clinic director Alicia DeMay has examined the snowy owl January 31, 2014 and said it is in stable condition. The results of blood tests will determine further treatment and release into the wild. Snowy Owls, reportedly found in the northern circumpolar region, are a rare sighting in the Washington metro area. AFP PHOTO / Gerald JONAS
