NETHERLANDS-ART-GOLDEN AGE
This handout photo provided by the Amsterdam Museum shows the 1676 painting "De regenten en regentessen van het Oude Mannen- en Vrouwengasthuis" (The Governors and Governoresses of the Amsterdam old men- and women's almshouse) by Adriaen Backer. The Amsterdam Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum presented on February 12, 2014 the joint project of a permanent exhibition of over thirty 17th- and 18th-century group portraits. Provisionally titled 'Gallery of the Golden Age', this will be the first presentation of so many group portraits of this size in a single show. These paintings are unique in the art world and they portray a characteristically Dutch burgher society. The presentation opens in late November 2014 at the Hermitage Amsterdam museum.
