(FILES) This photo taken on January 23, 2012, shows "MON 810", a variety of genetically modified maize (corn) developed by the US agro-chemicals Monsanto Company at a Monsanto storehouse in Trebes near Carcassonne, southern France. A legal battle concerning the cultivation of genetically mofidied corn is underway in France between those who support and those opposed to the growing of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), with the French Senate considering a request to ban the planting of genetically modified corn, on February 17, 2014. Final decisions about the cultivation of GMOs are currently being taken at the European Union level, however France aims to 're-nationalise' procedures to authorise or ban the growing of GMOs in the country, according to a statement released by the French Minister of Agriculture on February 17.
