CANADA-FORESTRY-ENVIRONMENT-HUNTING-NATIVE

TO GO WITH AFP STORY by Clement Sabourin, Canada-forestry-environment-hunting-native

Cree Hunters of the Indian community of Waswanipi, Canada, 600kms (373 miles) north of Montreal, butcher a moose on March 10, 2014. According to community elders, the food does not taste the same anymore because of the widespread clear-cut logging. Trappers, hunters, elders and all the community are fighting to protect 13,000 square kilometers (5,020 square miles) of forest north of their village in the Broadback Valley, one of the last remaining virgin boreal forest of Quebec, from the logging industry that keeps pushing its way further north. The Cree are also fighting to keep their traditional hunting rights in the forest. AFP PHOTO/Clement Sabourin
