Artist Melinda Hunt of the Hart Island Project looks at the book "Hart Island" by her and photographer Joel Sternfeld on April 2, 2014 in her studio in Peekskill, New York. Sternfeld and Hunt photographed the island in the early 1990's. The page is open to a photograph of Vicki Pavia, whose baby was buried on Hart Island. Hart Island in the Long Island Sound is New York City's public burial ground, for those bodies that are unclaimed or for those unable to afford a burial.
