FRANCE-XYNTHIA-TRIAL
Former mayor of La Faute-sur-Mer, Rene Marratier (2nd R) is pictured on September 25, 2014 as the court of Les Sables d'Olonne moves to a day of hearing in La Faute-sur-Mer, western France. The trial comes four years after the well-forecasted Xynthia storm battered the west coast of France killing 29 people, with half the death toll attributed to sea flooding and breach of the dilapidated and too low sea walls allowing the sea to flood the villages, trapping people in their homes. Five peoples are indicted for aggravated manslaughter, the town’s mayor, two vice-mayors, an administrative official and a real estate agent.
