FRANCE-XYNTHIA-TRIAL
The former mayor of La Faute-sur-Mer, Rene Marratier (L), with his lawyer Didier Seban, walks on September 25, 2014 in La Faute-sur-Mer, western France as the court of Les Sables d'Olonne went for a day of hearings to the site of the disaster. The trial comes four years after the well-forecasted Xynthia storm battered the west coast of France killing 29 people, with half the death toll attributed to sea flooding and breach of the dilapidated and too low sea walls allowing the sea to flood the villages, trapping people in their homes.
