INDIA-ECONOMY-AGRICULTURE

Indian labourers harvest spinach in a field on the outskirts of Amritsar on November 18, 2014. An explosion of working-age people in India could serve as an engine of economic growth or bring social turmoil, experts say. Economists say India needs at least eight to nine percent growth to create jobs for its ballooning youth population. The economy grew by 4.7 percent last year and the central bank expects it to expand by 5.5 percent this year far below the near double-digits needed to generate jobs for tens of millions of new entrants.
