SPACE-CURRENT SOLAR IMAGE
This 19 July, 2004 NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) Image shows several sunspots on the face of the Sun. Sunspot 652 and its companion spot 653 emerged over the sun-s eastern limb. Sunspot 652 is big, about the size of the planet Jupiter. Both sunspot 652 and 649 have beta-gamma-delta magnetic fields that harbor energy for X-class solar flares, major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms.
