BELGIUM-BLAST
Flowers and a note hang at a barrier, 02 August 2004, at the industrial estate of Ghislenghien, near Ath, in memory to the victims of a gas pipeline explosion 30 July. 17 people were killed and 132 injured in the blast. According to the public prosecutor at Tournai it will take several months to determine the cause of the blast. An inquiry will have to decide whether a problem with the pipeline itself, such as corrosion or a faulty weld, was responsible or whether external factors were involved.
