BELGIUM-BLAST
This general view shows workers of Fluxys 02 August 2004, operaing on the site where a gas pipeline was ruptured and exploded at the industrial estate of Ghislenghien, near Ath, 30 July, in order to inspect it. 17 people were killed and 132 injured in the blast. According to the public prosecutor at Tournai it will take several months to determine the cause of the blast. An inquiry will have to decide whether a problem with the pipeline itself, such as corrosion or a faulty weld, was responsible or whether external factors were involved.
